THE DETAILS
This is a trip no one else offers. If you want the legendary snow of Hokkaido as well as the steeps of Honshu, this is your trip. Being on the road is the best option if you want to visit both islands with a limited amount of time.
Start your journey on Hokkaido or Honshu; it's up to you. Your ports of call in Hokkaido are either Otaru or Tomakomai, both conveniently located so you can explore all of the mainstays. You will sail to or from the city of Niigata which is centrally located on the west coast of Honshu. From Niigata you are free to explore the mountains of northern or southern Japan. With a one way rental, you can return your vehicle in Sapporo or Tokyo and avoid a lengthy round trip.
Due to travel times between Hokkaido and Honshu we recommend at least 14 days, or if you have time, 3-4 weeks.
BASIC ITINERARY
Day 1
Arrive in Sapporo (CTS) or Tokyo (NRT/HND) and collect van/RV/car.
Day 2-13
Explore the mountains of Hokkaido and Honshu. The ferry only sails on certain days. We will determine an exact itinerary based on the dates of your trip.
Day 14
Return rental and depart from Sapporo or Tokyo.
FAQ
How do your prices compare?
Shop around at other packages and you'll find 7-day trips ranging from $2900 unguided to $3200+ for a guided trip. The dirty secret about the "guided" packages is that they often only guide you within and around the boundary of the resort. You're paying a guide to show you the in-bounds stashes that we have laid out for you on a map.
